Examples of Course Embedded Methods:

Biology course embedded example

This example from Biology uses pre- and post-test to assess how well biology majors learn and retain general biology content knowledge covered in the Biology Core (Objectives 1.1A-L and 1.2A-I)  each year. The pre test is given to lower division biology majors in BIOSC 1A and the post test will be given to seniors in BIOSC 180. Students are asked in the post test whether they have had all or just a portion of their Biology Core courses at CSU Fresno so that performance comparisons can be made between students who have had all Biology core courses at CSU Fresno vs. transfer students who have not.

Theatre Arts course embedded example

Demonstrating knowledge of the history of theatre (Goal 1.1 ) is assessed through the use of an examination administered in Drama 10, the first course in the history sequence, and again in Drama 186, the final course in the sequence.  Drama 10 and Drama 186 is also used to evaluate dramatic theory (Goal 1.2) with examples from plays of different eras.  Students complete essays that are scored by the faculty teaching these courses using a rubric prepared for this purpose.  Results are reported to the faculty along with suggestions for improvement in the curriculum.
