Energy Saving Programs

To date, these projects have resulted in annual savings in excess of 16,000,000 kilowatt-hours and $2,560,000 in utility costs. In addition, these projects have generated energy company rebates for the university with a value in excess of $2,000,000 over the last 15 years.

  1. Conversion of existing indoor lighting to T-8 florescent lamps and electronic ballasts
  2. Installation of variable speed drives on various HVAC air handlers
  3. Installation of in-direct evaporative coolers in the North Gym
  4. Installation of a 30,000 ton/hour thermal energy storage tank
  5. Improvement of the outdoor lighting throughout the campus. See the " Safe Lighting Path"
  6. Installation of occupancy sensors in classrooms, offices, and athletic facilities
  7. Installation of Vending Misers on soft drink machines
  8. Installation of window film to reduce HVAC requirements
  9. Replacement of 42,000 standard florescent lamps with 22,000 high efficiency lamps throughout the campus
  10. Installation of a "plate and frame" heat exchanger for free cooling
  11. Installation of adjustable frequency drives on pumps and cooling tower
  12. Upgrade of the Energy Management System computer software
  13. Re-commissioning of the Science I and Kremen Education buildings systems.
  14. Re-commissioning of the Central Plant, Family and Food Science and Social Science HVAC systems.
  15. Conversion of electric motors to high efficiency motors
  16. Replacement of existing boilers with high-tech boilers, reducing fuel consumption by 17%
  17. Installed LED and Solar lighting
