Dr. Thomas McClanahan -
Associate Vice President
Dr. McClanahan became Associate Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs in 1996. Prior to joining
Fresno State, he served as Executive Director of the Idaho Humanities Council and President of the Idaho Humanities
Foundation, Director of Grants at Butler University, Deputy Director of Development for the South Carolina Educational
Television Network, and Chairman of the Education Division at the South Carolina Arts Commission. Dr. McClanahan holds
a Ph.D. in English, an MA in philosophy, an MA in English, and a BA in English and philosophy. His volunteer and
community experience includes chairing the Idaho Rhodes Scholarship Committee for 10 years and serving on NW Region
Rhodes Scholarship selection committees, chairing the Idaho AmeriCorps program, and serving on the boards of directors
of the National Federation of State Humanities Councils, the Idaho Commission on Programs for Women, Confluence Press,
and others. Dr. McClanahan also has extensive university teaching experience.
