Lucia Hammar, Director
International students impress Lucia with their energy and spirit of adventure. Sharing
cultures with students is the best part of Lucia's job. She began work at ISSP in
February, 2006 coming from International Programs, where she encouraged Central
Valley students to study in other countries. As an undergraduate, Lucia studied at a small
mid-western college. After teaching English as a Second Language in Germany, she
entered graduate school to study linguistics (M.A. and Ph.D. from Indiana University in
Bloomington, Indiana). For seventeen years she worked at Stanford University in student
affairs and with several different international programs. Now, she's glad to work "where
the bulldog barks with an accent"!

Sabina Jacques , Immigration Specialist
Sabina has been the Immigration Specialist in ISSP for over 15 years. She came to the Fresno State campus from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon in August of 1984. She served as the Administrative Assistant to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for 9 years prior to transferring to ISSP. Sabina is married and has two sons who graduated from Fresno State. She assists international students with various immigration concerns and income tax compliance. She feels that she has the best job in the world, because she is able to work with individuals from all around the world.
Katsuyo Howard , Counselor
Katsuyo was born and educated in Japan and came to to the U.S. as a graduate student in 1972. She worked as a counselor at International Student Services and Programs for 7 years. Since 1986, she coordinated the special program for the minority students on campus until May 2003. That summer she joined at ISSP office. She has been involved with campus-wide student leadership, teaching, research and counseling. She is a licensed family therapist, trainer, author and video producer. She is married and has two children. She provides support and guidance to individual students with specific skills to survive in this new environment and succeed with their goals while studying at CSU, Fresno. She believes in each person's unique individual personal power to find their way to succeed and grow.

Paul Yunouye , Foreign Student Advisor
Paul serves as the Foreign Student Advisor for international students and is directly involved with Fresno State's Peer Advisor program among other administrative and student-centered functions. He loves student services and has a vision for seeing each international student achieve their highest potential. He joins his wife's family here in Fresno, and has recently started a family of his own.

Melissa Perez , Office Manager
Melissa Perez is the Office Manager for the ISSP Department. She supervises the student assistants and ensures that the overall office procedures run smoothly and efficiently. She has over 5 years experience working in Hospitality Management. Melissa has lived in Fresno all of her life and enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Alicia Montejano , International Admissions Specialist
Alicia has been working in International Admissions since September 2002. She previously worked in Admissions/Records/ Evaluations for four years. Alicia is a CSU-Fresno graduate. She enjoys working with the international students and staff very much, and thus far says it has been an enjoyable and enriching experience.

Jennifer Hernandez , International Admissions Specialist
Jennifer Hernandez is a native of Fresno who brings experience from her work at UC Berkeley in undergraduate admissions. She earned her Bachelor's degree from UC Santa Barbara, and then began her career at UC Berkeley, first working with student families in university housing, and then working in admissions.

Lisa James, International Admissions Specialist
Lisa is originally from Houston, Texas. She’s only been in Fresno a short time but loves it here. She brings experience from University of Houston – Clear Lake where she was an International Student Advisor. Lisa’s academic background and personal experience abroad inspires her to work with international students. She loves meeting people from all over the world and says that is the best part of her job.
