Definition of an International Student
You are an international student if you are or will be studying at a U.S. institution on a non-immigrant visa. Most international students admitted to California State University, Fresno, obtain F-1 or J-1 visas. However, it is possible to enter on other nonimmigrant visas. FRESHMEN

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (or "B" average) in college preparation courses
  • Score of 61 or higher on iBT TOEFL Exam (1)   OR

           6.0 Overall Band Score on IELTS

TRANSFER
STUDENTS

LOWER DIVISION (Less than 60 transferable units)

 

  • 2.0+ Grade Point Average on transferable college coursework AND

           3.0+ Grade Point Average on secondary school work (High School)

 

  • Score of 61 or higher on iBT TOEFL Exam OR

           6.0 Overall Band Score on IELTS   OR

          

           Completion (with a C or better) of an equivalent course that fulfills  

           CSU Fresno’s A2 Written Communication requirement (2)

UPPER DIVISION (More than 60 transferable units)

 

  • 2.4+ Grade Point Average on transferable college coursework
  • Score of 61 or higher on iBT TOEFL Exam  OR

            6.0 Overall Band Score on IELTS  OR

           Completion (with a C or better) of an equivalent course that fulfills

           CSU Fresno’s A2 Written Communication requirement (2)

GRADUATE
STUDENTS

  • Minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average in last 60 units or last 2 years
  • Score of 80 or higher on iBT TOEFL Exam (1) OR 6.5 Overall Band Score on IELTS
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) as required by the major program.

  • Conditional admission is available to academically eligible students who have not yet completed the TOEFL or IELTS requirement. Please be advised that Graduate students seeking admission must also complete the GRE, GMAT, or the MAT as required by the major program prior to seeking conditional admission. Students offered conditional admission can attend an Intensive English Program such as the American English Institute (AEI) located on the CSU Fresno campus. Upon satisfying the minimum CSU Fresno TOEFL or IELTS requirement, one may begin academic study the following semester.
  • Students who are transferring from a California Community College should refer to www.assist.org. Out-of-state transfers or students transferring from another 4-year university within California should email intladm@listserv.csufresno.edu to inquire whether a course you have taken fulfills the A2 requirement.

Transcripts

We require official transcripts, diplomas, certificates, and mark sheets of all academic work completed including secondary school in both your native language and in English. Graduate applicants must submit mark sheets from all attempts.

Note that your admission will be processed with no more than one semester of work in progress prior to your planned enrollment here. Proof of graduation, degrees, certificates, and diplomas must be submitted in addition to the transcripts of your courses.

Only original documents or certified true copies that are certified by the issuing school are acceptable. If you submit certified true copies, original documents must be presented upon arrival to California State University, Fresno. Notarized documents are not accepted.

Official English translations of all transcripts, diplomas, certificates, and mark sheets must be submitted. It is preferred that they are prepared by the university where the work was completed; however, they may be prepared by government approved or state licensed translators. Translations must be word-for-word (literal) mirror-image translations. Do not submit translations that are interpretive or that do not translate all of the text and symbols appearing on your documents. Notarized documents are not accepted.

Passport

A copy of your passport photo/information page must be submitted.

 

Financial Documents

Request your sponsor to send a bank letter/statement showing the amount and source of support. If your sponsor is a government agency, organization, or other group, you must attach a separate letter from your sponsor that includes the terms of the sponsorship (in English).

Financial statements must show financial support for at least $20,295 USD per academic year for graduate students and $23,823 USD for undergraduate students. If you plan to bring dependents with you to the United States, the financial statement must show an additional $3,000 for a spouse and $1,500 for each child.
