Acclaimed for the immediacy, sensitivity, and depth of his interpretations, Sergei Babayan’s performances reveal an emotional intensity and bold energy, equipping him to excel in repertoire ranging from Rameau to Ligeti. Winner of the 1989 Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition in Cleveland, this Armenian pianist returns to Fresno for another display of his “phenomenal level of color and imagination” (The American Record Guide). This concert is co-sponsored with the Fresno State Armenian Studies Program.

The Jazz Composers Orchestra, a burnin' ensemble made up of Fresno's top jazz artists, opens it's fifth year in existence with a concert of original and inventive arrangements. Our own Jazz Band "A" will open the concert. This is a MUST HEAR for 2008!

Fresno State Wind Orchestra with Clovis North High School
The university’s premier wind band will join the Clovis North High School Wind Ensemble for this special off-campus event. Fresno State Alumnus David Lesser serves as the Director of Bands at Clovis North High School. Dr. Gilroy will guest conduct the Clovis North High School Wind Ensemble and David Lesser will guest conduct the Fresno State Wind Orchestra. This concert takes place in the fabulous new Clovis Unified School District concert hall, named in memory of Mr. Paul Shaghoian who completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music at Fresno State. Mr. Shaghoian served as a Graduate Assistant Marching Band Director from 1996 until 1998 with Dr. Gilroy.

From their days in Tin Pan Alley and Broadway, to Carnegie Hall and the final years in Hollywood, George and Ira Gershwin were popular music royalty - the golden songwriting team that created some of our most memorable and beloved music. Richard Glazier is a master storyteller whose charming, insightful narration is the perfect accompaniment to his brilliant piano performances. Playing rare arrangements of the great Gershwin songs, and the complete solo piano version of Rhapsody in Blue, Glazier brings his audiences entertainment of the highest order.
