Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is already March and soon enough, the school year will be over.    It continues to be an exciting time for us at UHS.  Not only have our students continued to perform well, but also our Academic Decathlon and Mock Trial Teams have both been successful with Science Olympiad, Softball, Volleyball and Soccer all up now.   Academic Decathlon is already the county champion, will they repeat as the National Small School Champion and add to their three consecutive championships?  And then there is construction!  We have finished making decisions on flooring and room colors and are now re-evaluating the technology we are putting into the new school.  At the moment the contractors are about 4 weeks behind because of an earlier mishap, but things are moving along very nicely.

Some other quick items of interest.

  • Enclosed are the six week progress reports.  Still plenty of time to improve grades.
  • This letter also includes the performance schedule for our end-of-the-year concerts and school musical.  Feel free to stick this to your refrigerator for future reference.
  • Friday the 12th is the spring fundraiser.  I have been told Phoenix Alliance has created a great event but they do need people to attend.  I will be there in a Toga as the theme is “Rome Was Not Built In A Day.”  You don’t have to wear a toga to attend, but please don’t make me attend alone!  Enclosed is the list of items that will be sold as part of the live auction, the most impressive list the event has ever seen.
  • Don’t know what to do with your students this summer?  UHS has compiled a long list of summer programs your students may want to investigate.  Additionally, we have added a new link to ‘Enrichment Alley’ that is chalk full of summer program options, both items can be found under the student resources link on our website.
  • On February 10th we had an “I Am UHS” presentation with each class.  During the event we talked about Character and Honor and every student signed a pledge to work towards being a person of better character.   It was an impressive event and you should be proud of your students.
  • Upcoming dates: Open house next Tuesday, WASC Day on March 10th (volunteers you know who you are), Fundraiser on the 12th, Spring Break starts on the 27th of March.

In closing just let me mention that this month we did accept our incoming students for next year.   We were honored to receive 207 applications to attend UHS and currently have a waiting list.   Have a great spring and contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

James Bushman
